Peggilene Bartels – King Peggy

David is joined by Peggilene Bartels to tell her incredible story of becoming King of the village of Otuam in Ghana. Peggilene, aka King Peggy, was born in Ghana in 1953 but moved to the United States in the early 1970s to work at Ghana’s embassy. After spending almost 35 years living in Maryland, Peggy got a phone call that changed her life. Her uncle, the King of Otuam, had passed away and it was decided that Peggy was to become King. Unfortunately, being the King of Otuam is not quite as glamorous as one might hope. Instead of finding a life of luxury and wealth, Peggilene discovered a dilapidated palace and a population of 7,000 without education, safe drinking water, or adequate healthcare.
