Gospel Music Workshop of America

A conversation in words and song about the past, present and future of gospel music with members of the Atlanta chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop. The segment explores the roots of gospel music in the West African slave trade to its evolution from plantation songs. It also discusses some of the founders of gospel music including Georgia’s own Thomas Dorsey and Mahalia Jackson. This includes in-studio performances of “Steal Away” and “Precious Lord”.
