Shawn Mullins

David hosts Atlanta singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins for an in-studio performance. Mullins rose to national prominence with his chart-topping hit “Lullaby” in 1998. He has recorded numerous albums since then including a live performance album from a sold out show at the Variety Playhouse. Daddy-O

Thanks in part to urban music giants like Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris and Outkast, Atlanta has become synonymous with hip-hop. To help us understand Atlanta’s place in the hip-hop world, David welcomes into the studio hip-hop producer and rapper Daddy-O. Daddy-O was a founding member of the pioneering Brooklyn hip-hop group Stetsasonic in the early 80s. He has gone on to work with groups as diverse as Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the B-52s. He has recently moved to Atlanta to begin a new hip-hop label. And he is talking with David today about the origins and future of Atlanta’s hiphop scene.

James Bamford – Shadow Factory

Mary Tillman – The Tillman Story

A new documentary film premiered this past week called The Tillman Story about the death and military cover-up of Pat Tillman who left a successful career as an NFL star to volunteer for the army after 9-11. For today’s Conversations with David Lewis, David speaks with Mary Tillman, Pat Tillman’s mother, and one of the principal subjects of the film. She also has written a book about her family’s experience titled, Boots on the Ground By Dusk.
